A Farmer's Life

Crops

Project Freedom introduces a new overhaul to farming where players can plant and harvest new crops. These new crops are obtained by breaking grass or ferns, with a 5% chance for it to drop a seed.

Pots

These seeds can then be planted on the new special "pot" block. This is crafted with a new recipe consisting of 5 oak planks and 1 dirt block.

Once the plant is placed on the new pot, the plant will grow, same as a normal vanilla plant. However, the plant needs to be watered periodically, or else the crop will wither and die. Crops also need to grow in the right Seasons.

Watering

The crops do not use vanilla moisture mechanics, in that they will not be watered simply by being near a water source. You will have to actively upkeep them using the watering can item, or the sprinkler. The sprinkler will automatically water your crops within a set radius, so long as it is filled.

You will have to fill up your watering can by right clicking on an open water source. Similarly, you will have to refill your sprinklers periodically by holding a water bucket in your hand and right clicking on it.

Fertilizers

To speed up the growth of your crops, you can also use various different fertilizers. To use a fertilizer, you must craft it, then place it down on a pot prior to planting a crop. The types of fertilizers include grow speed fertilizers, soil-retaining fertilizers, yield increasing fertilizers, and quality fertilizers.

In order to facilitate the query of the fertilizer type used, the soil surveyor can be used. Right click the crop or planting pot. If there is fertilizer, the fertilizer type and remaining usage times will be displayed in the hologram.

Protection

Crops can be attacked by crows rendering their growth obsolete. Players can however protect their crops from attacks using a scarecrow placed in the same chunk as the crops. One scarecrow protects one chunks from attacks.

Temperature

Crops will wither and die if they are grown in the wrong seasons, or the temperature is too hot or too cold. This can be mitigated by making sure that a crop is inside of a greenhouse. Greenhouse glass can be created for this effect.

Seasons

Project Freedom has four different seasons: Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter. These seasons do not abide by real life seasons, and instead use an in-game calendar.

Each season consists of 3 months, and each month consists of 29-31 days. Each day is one real-life hour. The day length and night length can also shift dependent on the season.

Spring

Spring begins on the 4th of March, and brings cherry leaves, green grounds, and a clear blue sky. Animals have a higher likelihood of spawning, and flowers are more likely to sprout in the ground.

Summer

Summer begins on the 4th of June and brings longer days with more saturated leaves and a darker blue sky. Temperatures also rise moderately. Fireflies can spawn occasionally. Husks can spawn occasionally.

Autumn

Autumn begins on the 4th of September, and bring orange leaves, a gray sky, cooler temperatures, and shorter days. Rain is much more common during fall. Spiders, both regular and cave variants, and bats become more frequent.

Winter

Winter begins on the 4th of December and brings icy-cold temperatures with a darker sky and light gray leaves, along with longer nights. Winter animals such as wolves, white foxes, polar bears, and strays will become much more frequent.
